Abstract

Examines the evolution of a high school English teacher's beliefs about literacy and how they shaped her teaching practices throughout her career, analyzing the life history approach to research and noting ethical considerations that arise when studying teacher thinking. Interview and observation data indicate that all teachers must develop personal pedagogies that are consistent with their inner selves. (SM)
