Abstract

This case study of one comprehensive university's economic-development engagement in its region was designed to better understand perceptions and actions by higher education leaders and economic development professionals. Findings indicated that one regional comprehensive university was an effective economic development partner because its leaders were actively engaged outside the confines of the institution. Effective engagement and collaboration between the institution and the economic-development organizations reportedly positioned the institution's academic and research prowess to support and enhance economic growth. Application of this study's findings at other institutions should be explored, and continued research is recommended on higher education engagement in local and regional economic development.
