Abstract
- The Wilderness Education Association (WEA) helps people enjoy and protect our nation's most precious resource: Our wilderness areas. The WEA has been training and certifying outdoor leaders around the world for nearly 30 years, teaching students safely and effectively to lead groups in the outdoors without harming the environment. In addition, working with national conservation groups and government agencies, the WEA educates the general public in how to appreciate and conserve the wilderness through special curricula and public service information campaigns. The nine papers comprising these proceedings are: (1) Outdoor Leadership Development in a Wired Age: Effective Training Applications That Keep Pace with Technology (Andy Ballard, Ricky Haro, and Josh Walker); (2) Inspiring Young Leaders through Collaborative Recreation (Mary Darwin, Deb Gisvold, and Mallory Rickbeil); (3) Research Roundtable: Charting the Future of Research in Outdoor Leadership (Marni Goldenberg and Bruce Martin); (4) Outdoor Leadership Development in a Wired Age: Interactive Course Area Guides (ICAGs) (Ricky Haro, Josh Walker, and Andy Ballard); (5) The Woodcraft Archetype of Nature Interaction (Paul Van Horn); (6) Developing Practical Indicators of Outdoor Leadership Competency (Bruce Martin and Mark Wagstaff); (7) Stoked on Leadership (Dane Landrith); (8) Teaching Adventure Education: Theory and Best Practices (Bob Stremba and Chris Mulcahy); and (9) Outdoor Leadership Development in a Wired Age: Navigation Terrain Futures (Josh Walker, Ricky Haro, and Andy Ballard). (Individual papers contain references.) [For the 2006 proceedings, see ED504907.]
