Abstract
- Recent public controversies over the pay and perquisites of college and university presidents have prompted soul searching among boards of trustees across the country. With the Senate Finance Committee now considering tax reforms that could affect nonprofit executive pay as well as college and university governance in general, "Trusteeship" convened a panel of experts with wide-ranging experience to suggest how boards and chief executives can avoid missteps. The discussion, which took place by conference call on December 1, was moderated by "Trusteeship" "Legal Standpoint" columnist Dorothy Robinson. This paper provides a transcript of the panel's discussion exploring how to improve oversight relating to controversies over presidential pay and expenditures.
