Abstract
- This document reproduces selected information from the U.S. Department of Education's "Twenty-Second Annual Report to Congress on the Implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act" (2000). These selections consist of text and data tables related to programs for young children with disabilities and their families under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA): the Early Intervention Programs for Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities, Part C of IDEA, which covers services to children from birth through age 2; and the Preschool Program (Section 619) of Part B of IDEA, which covers services to children from ages 3 to 5. Information is provided on the following areas: (1) minority institutions of higher education involved in the preparation of special education personnel; (2) prenatal exposure to alcohol and nicotine; (3) number and percentage of children served by age and disability; (4) educational environments of children served; (5) innovative activities in school programs and services; (6) state improvement and monitoring; (7) estimated resident population for children in different age groups; (8) funding for IDEA and state grants awarded for early intervention and preschool services; (9) number of infants and toddlers served; and (10) early intervention personnel.
