The Status of Child Nutrition Programs in Colorado.

Abstract

This report describes federal and state child nutrition programs in effect in Colorado elementary and secondary schools. Programs discussed include the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), the School Breakfast Program (SBP), school breakfast start-up grants, the Special Milk Program, the Summer Food Service Program, and the Nutrition Education and Training Program. Dietary guidelines, program eligibility requirements, and program revenue sources are outlined. The bulk of the report consists of tables that show: (1) the average cost to produce meals; (2) NSLP total meals; (3) SBP total meals; (4) average daily program participation; (5) average meal prices; and (6) participation in the Denver metro area, outlying cities, outlying towns, as well as in recreational, rural, small attendance, and urban or suburban settings.
