Abstract

This book is a companion volume to "Best Practices in School Psychology," and contains both revisions of earlier chapters and chapters on new topics. Materials are organized around the idea that there are some best practices that the school psychologist should know about and be able to implement. The 69 chapters in this book were written by practitioners and by university faculty and focus upon practical ideas that can be implemented at the school level. A wide range of topics are presented in this monograph. A number of chapters focus on assessment issues, specifically the assessment of secondary-age students, students with severe/profound handicaps, bilingual students, and preschool-age children. Other assessment chapters concentrate on intellectual assessment, personality assessment, curriculum-based assessment, vocational assessment of students with disabilities, evaluation of educational programs, reevaluations, and kindergarten screening. There are also several chapters that focus on assisting students with a variety of disabilities, including learning disabilities, motor impairments, physical handicaps, hearing loss, and visual loss. Still other topics range from adaptive behavior to social skills training, cultural considerations, and counseling issues. (NB)
