Abstract
- This booklet contains ideas about how families can help children in school in the following basic ways by: (1) teaching their children; (2) learning new things to help their children learn; (3) supporting children and the school; and (4) making decisions about what and how children learn. For each of these areas, a chart is included so that families can evaluate and record their progress in specific activities. In addition, suggestions are given to help parents understand and use student progress reports. Another area discussed is meeting with the teacher and using the information from parent conferences. Definitions are provided for some terms commonly used in talking about Chapter 1 programs. A final section lists six resources that parents can turn to for more help in supporting children in school.
