Abstract
- This textbook in educational research is intended to guide students as they plan and carry out a research project. The book has three goals: to provide basic information needed to understand the research process; to enable students to use this knowledge to design their own research project; and to permit students to read and understand the literature of educational research. The four parts of the book are designed to achieve these goals. Part 1 contains one chapter on the nature of educational research. Part 2, "The Basics of Educational Research," contains 10 chapters on the basic concepts and procedures of educational research, including variables and hypotheses, sampling, instrumentation, validity and reliability, and data collection and analysis. Part 3, "Research Methodologies," contains 6 chapters on experimental, correlational, causal-comparative, survey, qualitative, and historical research. Each chapter includes a study illustrating the particular research method. Part 4 contains one chapter on the purpose and methodology of research proposals and reports. The appendixes include a table of random numbers, a normal curve table, a chi-square distribution table, a glossary, and suggestions for further reading. (JD)
