Abstract

This manual shows teachers how to analyze and present sport skills by breaking them down into fundamental body movements that can be used in all sports. Complete information is given on how to teach seven team sports effectively in a coeducational setting. Advice is offered on how to organize course material, develop a curriculum, plan teaching sequences, and learn to analyze sport skills. The manual may be used by physical educators in middle and high schools as a reference for helping them to: (1) understand basic movement patterns, (2) organize groups into learning units, (3) include all students or group members in the learning experience, (4) develop teaching strategies to maximize participation, and (5) meet the special demands of teaching coeducational classes. Part 1,"Concepts and Methods," explains coed sports along with the principles of movement and observation, fundamental movement skills, and similarities and differences between the movement skills. Part 2, "Team Sports," covers basketball, field hockey, flag/touch football, soccer, softball, speedball, and volleyball. (JD)
