Abstract
- This book contains a reference guide for the use of HOMES, a demographic model and computer program developed to project the number and demographic characteristics of households. Through application of this computer program to standard population projectors, users can retrieve data on: (1) number of households; (2) age and sex of household heads; (3) households with single heads; (4) one-person households; (5) average household size; (6) number of children and grandchildren; and (7) number of parents. To familiarize the user with the range of information available from HOMES, a summary of its application to the Republic of Korea is provided. A technical description of the principles that underlie the model is reported and illustrated using census and survey data from Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Korea. Computer specifications for HOMES, sample output, and procedures for running this program on a mainframe computer are provided. Appendices contain household head rates by household type and age of household head for these Asian countries from 1970-80 and summaries of HOMES programs. Tables, graphs, exhibits, and a 16 item bibliography are included. (Author/JHP)
