Abstract

The necessity for planning education for economic development is the topic of this paper, which focuses particularly on the relationship between the Caribbean region and South Florida. First, a general overview of the current state of education in the Caribbean is presented, and the relation of formal education to development is discussed. Next, education and educational planning in the Caribbean are surveyed, and then the current trend toward integrating educational planning with social, economic, and cultural goals is cited. Finally, it is proposed that a dynamic between educational content and teaching method, in the form of a new "generative curriculum" should be a current focus of Caribbean educators and planners.
