Abstract

These proceedings contain twenty-one presentations made at the Second Annual Conference of the Council on the Continuing Education Unit (CEU). The opening speeches--Introduction to the CEU and Future Directions for a Learning Society--are followed by the panel discussion presentation, The CEU: Can It Withstand Scrutiny?, and two respondent speeches: The Case for Evaluating CEU Learning and Recommendations for an Evaluated CEU for Engineers and Scientists. The next seven presentations were made at explorative workshops concerning a quality CEU in--(1) Government (The Participant Action Plan Approach, CEU Uses in Government), (2) the Professions and Associations, (3) Four-Year Colleges and Universities (notes of workshop recorder), (4) Business and Industry--Part I and Part II, notes of workshop recorder), and (5) Two-Year Institutions. Seven additional workshop presentations are entitled Producer/Consumer Perspectives on Quality Assessment in Continuing Education, Auditing CEU Operations: Its Relation to Quality CEU Programming, The CEU in Testing and Training, Testing for Instructional Quality, American Council on Education and the CEU, Personnel Development and the CEU, and Getting Started with the CEU. Introductory remarks, Preliminary Comments Made Before Presentation, by Morris Bressler, precede his closing remarks, entitled Continuing Education Prospects and Choices--A Summary. (YLB)
