Abstract
- The sensation of thermal comfort is determined by a combination of air temperature, humidity of the air, rate of movement of the air, and radiant heat. This digest is intended to assist architects to design educational facilities that are as thermally comfortable as is possible without recourse to mechanical air conditioning. A nomogram is supplied consisting of three graphs that show the wind speed, a comfort index, and the degree of radiation. Given the daily, monthly, and yearly range in air temperature and the corresponding air humidity for any particular location, an architect can use the nomogram to design aspects of a building that influence the rate of air movement and the radiant heat.
