Abstract

Intended for parents of developmentally disabled children, the booklet (in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese versions) contains information for the parent to share with the child and offers suggestions for activities. Section 1 on physical health and nutrition shows how the proper foods and good eating habits help a healthy body resist illness. Section 2 focuses on the importance of mental health and shows the ways parents can help the child have a good outlook on himself and others. A third section is concerned with the activities of daily living and suggests ways in which the parent can help a child develop skills in this area. Section 4 gives advice on social behaviors, while Section 5 discusses human sexuality and sex education. A final section offers guidelines on safety. (SBH)
