Abstract

This report describes a biology course designed to be offered to first-year students at the University of New South Wales in Australia. It also covers the planning, development and implementation of the course as well as its evaluation over a three year period (1974-1976). The publication consists of six major sections: (1) introduction, which presents background to the course, students served by the course and staff servicing the course; (2) planning and implementing the course, which presents principles, methods and problems of implementation; (3) teaching methods, which is divided into two major inputs, information and teaching of skills; (4) feedback to students; (5) evaluation of the course, which includes student and staff evaluation; and (6) general discussion, which presents successes and failures of teaching methods used. In addition, a preface, acknowledgements, references list, and appendices are presented. (HM)
