Abstract

This publication is the complete transcription of a weekly radio program devoted to contemporary issues in American education. This particular program consisted of an informal debate on various educational issues between Terry Herndon, executive director of the National Education Association (NEA), and Albert Shanker, president of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). The debate focuses primarily on the general topic of collective bargaining in education, and more specifically on the role of unions in education and on the differences and competition between the NEA and the AFT.
