Abstract
- Human communication involves the interaction of selves, and an intercultural encounter permits the discovery of one's own cultural self. Participatory learning of intercultural communication provides students with an opportunity for involvement through analysis of their and others' perceptions, improvement of language fidelity, emphasis on sensitivity to difference in others, and development of an ability to evaluate intercultural communications. Practical applications of theory for the classroom include exercises designed to stimulate self-awareness, improve understanding of cultural patterns through the study of literature, and increase perception of varied value systems.
