Abstract

Based on information derived from research resumes of the Cooperative State Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), this inventory of rural development research in the Southern States is part of the Southern Rural Development Center's effort to establish a base of knowledge on rural development and to point to gaps in knowledge where research is needed. The action oriented research in this inventory is limited to the following major USDA "rural development" classifications: (1) Community Facilities, (2) People Building, (3) Economic Development, and (4) Environmental Improvement. Minor subareas of each major area are identified via a matrix of research areas. This inventory provides over 200 entries, each of which contains the following information: a major and minor area classification: a matrix number; a project title; an abstract; a project number; the researcher's name; the performing organization's name and address; the performance period (dates); and the key words.
