A General-Purpose ASCII Decoder for Control of Peripheral Devices for CAI Terminals.

The ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) decoder described here accepts inputs from an acoustic coupler, or Modem, in a remote time-sharing system. On receipt of a special command character the decoder recognizes, stores, and decodes the next two decimal digits. The output can be used to access any one of 100 items. For example, the decoder allows a random-access slide projector to be operated under computer control.
