Abstract

This paper attempts to develop models for the assessment of school functioning with the average percent daily attendance considered an index of school functioning. The data were obtained from 104 high schools, junior high schools, and elementary schools in the Boston Public School System. Multiple regression analysis, using the matrix of intercorrelations, accounted for 50 percent of the variance in the measure of school functioning. The sets of variables utilized in the analysis were designed to measure (1) school structure, (2) ethnic structure of the school neighborhood, and (3) administrative decisions relating to personnel and budgetary requirements.
