Abstract

This survey attempted to examine what happened in the Ocean Hill-Brownsville Community school district, New York where there was parent participation, and what the attitudes of parents were towards local control. While the short history of the demonstration project did not allow for a long-term evaluation, the project did fulfill many of the goals of a community school district. The parents developed enough efficacy to participate in and acquire knowledge pertaining to school matters, and had confidence in their educational leaders.
