A Study of the Occupation of Electroencephalographic Technician. Interim Report.

To validate a task list for the occupation of electroencephalograph (EEG) technician, which was derived by project staff members and reviewed and amended by the EEG National Technical Advisory Committee, 109 questionnaires were distributed to four different samples. A 60 percent response revealed: (1) The task list was highly representative of those tasks which are currently being performed by EEG technicians, (2) The technician does not receive a high degree of supervision in the performance of his job, (3) Few of the tasks were perceived as being difficult to perform, and (4) Advisory committee members perceived that each task was done more frequently, required a greater degree of supervision, and was more difficult to perform than did the other samples. On the basis of survey data, it was concluded that training programs should contain educational content relevant to each task on the list.
