Abstract

The theory of loop quantum gravity is an attempt at reconciling general relativity and quantum mechanics by studying the quantum behavior of spacetime at the Planck scale. By finding a geometrical picture of discrete spacetime the theory aims for a full quantum theory with a Hilbert Space H, a setof observables O and governing laws of dynamics. The dynamics in questionare described in terms of transition amplitudes W where the shift from different geometrical configurations of spacetime is the main focal point. Thisproject outlines the theoretical background and describes the construction ofthe set (H, O, W) needed for a full quantum picture including the construction of spin networks. Since the theory describes nature at the Planck scaleit is far away from being experimentally feasible and so one must turn tosimulations. For this purpose I discuss and conduct experimental quantumsimulations on real quantum hardware with a focus on the construction anddynamics of spin networks and show how today’s quantum technologies canalready be used to perform meaningful computations.
