Abstract

The World Health Organization defines osteoporosis as a degenerative disease that decreases the amount of bone mass, generating fracture complications. Among the susceptible groups is the older adult population, it is said that about 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men suffer from osteoporosis and it is estimated that this number will double in the future. The present research aims to evaluate the quality of life in users with osteoporosis who attend outpatient consultation at the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, 2022-2023, for this purpose a quantitative study of cross-sectional descriptive type was carried out, through the application of direct interview that allowed us to use the questionnaire that collected both sociodemographic data which were: sex, age, work status and level of education; and also evaluated the level of quality of life of older adult users with osteoporosis who attended the outpatient service of the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, belonging to the city of Cuenca, Azuay 2022-2023, through the Osteoporosis Targeted Quality of Life (OPTQoL) questionnaire. The data were analyzed in the SPSS Statistics 22 program, using descriptive statistics and tables in which the results were presented. The quality of life in users with osteoporosis who attended the outpatient service of the HVCM, Cuenca 2022- 2023 was in greater proportion the moderate affectation, which had a higher frequency 66 (68.8%) before the mild and severe affectation.
