Abstract

Both climacteric and menopause are natural or physiological processes occurring between 45 and 55 years of age, during which various symptoms are produced. Currently in our country, intercultural self-care practices are in decline due to the lack of knowledge and its implementation, as well as its displacement by other therapies such as pharmacological treatment or associated therapies. The objective of this research was to describe knowledge, beliefs and intercultural self-care practices of climacteric and menopausal women in the health centers of Azogues, 2023-2024. A study was carried out with a qualitative approach of phenomenological type that allowed us to know the meanings that individuals give to their experience, trying to see things from the point of view of other people describing and interpreting them. Among the main results it was observed that the term climacteric was totally unknown while menopause was related to the symptoms that occur during it, they considered that both stages brought with them positive and negative contributions and to treat them it was necessary to have a good diet and the varied use of medicinal plants through infusions and baths, Much of the knowledge about the different methods of self-care and ancestral practices was associated with the influence of society and according to the culture, in many of them highlighted the part of education and economic resources with respect to self-care practiced by women in the parishes of Luis Cordero and Cojitambo
