Abstract
- [EN] The analysis and identification of historical mortars is essential for decision-making in restoration processes. In addition, its mineralogical-petrographic analysis, as well as its chemical characteristics, can provide relevant information that allows determining the chronological sequence of later interventions, which makes it possible to delimit and define different construction phases. Based on the defensive towers of the Nasrid kingdom of Granada, the study has been approached from an archaeometric point of view for the characterization of the historical mortars of their factories, obtained from both their coatings and the constituent materials of the walls. In this paper the preliminary results obtained in the Torre de Pimentel or de los Molinos and the Torre del Salto de la Mora or de la Sal, both located on the coast of the province of Malaga, are shown. A comparison is established between the two types of towers, verifying their material constitution with the historical and constructive analysis, through the analysis and interpretation of the information extracted from the X-ray diffraction tests (XRD).
