Percepción de la adherencia al tratamiento médico-nutricional en los pacientes del club de diabetes del Hospital General Julius Doepfner, Zamora 2023

Abstract
- Background: In Ecuador the prevalence of diabetes is 5.5%. A person is at greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes if they do not perform daily physical activity and are overweight or obese. This is a risk factor that can be modified with adequate nutrition and frequent physical activity. Objective: Identify the perception of adherence to medical-nutritional treatment in patients of the diabetes club of the Julius Doepfner General Hospital in the city of Zamora. Methodological design: It is a qualitative - phenomenological study, intentional sampling was used under the criterion of theoretical saturation, the semi-structured interview was applied to ten people who attend the diabetes club of the Julius Doepfner General Hospital, in the city of Zamora. Subsequently, the coding and categorization of the criteria issued was carried out with the technical support of the ATLAS.Ti application. Results: Women between the ages of 42 and 82 participated in this study, with a level of education ranging from primary, secondary, higher, and fourth level. The participants indicated that the diet is not consistent with that of a person with diabetes. Regarding the perception of medical-nutritional treatment, it is influenced by the emotional support of family members and recommendations from health professionals. Conclusions: Among the factors that influenced adherence to medical-nutritional treatment, the following stand out: age in the elderly, lack of commitment to treatment, myths or erroneous beliefs about insulin, difficulty walking.
