Abstract

The present research project aims to determine the models and approaches of family intervention employed in the Family Guidance department at the Institute of Criminology, Criminalistics, and Psychosocial and Family Intervention, based on the issues and needs of families. The research approach adopted for its analysis is mixed, as qualitative and quantitative methods have been combined to leverage the strengths of both methodologies. The techniques outlined for the study include a baseline that discloses the study variables: models and approaches used in the Family Guidance area at the Institute during the year 2022 through documentary review, based on a quantitative scope. Similarly, regarding the qualitative aspect, the study involves the technique of in-depth interviews with a professional and three pre-professionals from the Family Guidance area. The sample obtained consisted of 94 cases attended by the Family Guidance department in the year 2022. The study results allow us to identify that the selection and subsequent application of the family intervention model and approach exhibit a knowledge bias. Inconsistencies in the applied knowledge were evident when developing family care processes. Therefore, the research clearly determined that both the models and approaches to family intervention are not adequately determined by professionals and pre-professionals in the Family Guidance department. During the analysis, confusion was found regarding their selection, considering that their execution was not suitable, as verified through the documentary review conducted for the development of this study.
