Expansión del dibujo a través del hilo y la creación textil en los siglos XX-XXI

Esta tesis doctoral se presenta dividida en tres capítulos: el primero en torno a algunas artistas del continente europeo que usaron lo textil y lo gráfico en las vanguardias, desde el constructivismo ruso a la Bauhaus; el segundo aborda una serie de piezas significativas en el proceso por el que el grafismo pasó del textil en pared (bordados y tapices) a la instalación textil, mientras que el último analiza algunas claves del dibujo expandido –ya sin elementos textiles–, emancipado como técnica en el espacio, especialmente a través de elementos gráficos no textiles y de la silueta. En general, presenta una investigación teórica que indaga en la producción artística vinculada a la incursión de la disciplina del dibujo en el ámbito de lo que Rosalind Krauss denominó en 1979 como ‘campo expandido’. Partimos de la hipótesis de que el arte textil, especialmente a través del poder gráfico del hilo y la fibra, ha tenido un papel fundamental en esa evolución del arte gráfico y el dibujo en los últimos cincuenta años, por lo que situamos precisamente esas obras de mujeres creadoras como referentes de sujetos activos fundamentales en esa expansión en el espacio. Se ha llevado a cabo un análisis de las obras de algunas artistas principales que han trabajado en el campo de las disciplinas del arte textil con componente gráfico para culminar en la instalación gráfica artística y el dibujo expandido. Por tanto, esta investigación propone una aproximación al dibujo contemporáneo, técnica que tradicionalmente habría desempeñado (al igual que la mujer y la artesanía) un papel secundario en el desarrollo de la historia del arte. Relegados ambos aspectos en la historia por su vinculación al rol de sujeto pasivo y a la categoría de arte menor –la mujer como creadora y el textil como artesanía– ponemos de manifiesto, sin embargo, cómo el arte gráfico ha experimentado un resurgir artístico desde la segunda mitad del siglo pasado, que le ha llevado a generar una serie de connotaciones y
This PhD dissertation is divided into three chapters: the first deals with some artists from the European continent who used textiles and graphics in the avant-garde, from Russian constructivism to the Bauhaus; the second deals with a series of significant pieces in the process by which graphics went from wall textiles (embroidery and tapestries) to textile installations, while the last one analyses some of the keys to expanded drawing - now without textile elements - emancipated as a technique in space, especially through non-textile graphic elements and the silhouette. In general, it presents a theoretical research that investigates the artistic production linked to the incursion of the discipline of drawing in the field of what Rosalind Krauss called in 1979 as ‘expanded field’. We start from the hypothesis that textile art, especially through the graphic power of thread and fibre, has played a fundamental role in this evolution of graphic art and drawing over the last fifty years, and we therefore situate precisely these works by women creators as referents of fundamental active subjects in this expansion in space. An analysis has been carried out of the works of some of the main artists who have worked in the field of textile art disciplines with a graphic component, culminating in the artistic graphic installation and expanded drawing. This research therefore proposes an approach to contemporary drawing, a technique that has traditionally played (like women and crafts) a secondary role in the development of the history of art. Both aspects have been relegated in history due to their link to the role of passive subject and to the category of minor art – women as creators and textiles as crafts– but we show how graphic art has experienced an artistic resurgence since the second half of the last century, which has led it to generate a series of connotations and possibilities on a conceptual, creative, aesthetic or symbolic level that have invaded part of the cont
