Iconografía fotográfica: : Pajareras en una ventana de piedra labrada en Alcántara(Cáceres), de Remigio Mestre

We analyse an image by the local photographer Remigio Mestre from Alcántara (Cáceres), whose central motif is a Renaissance window in which two birdcages hang. It is a black and white photograph from the mid-20th century, whose subject matter and aesthetics respond to two guidelines: the postcard style and the tradition of pictorial genre painting. The most relevant aspects of both are considered, such as the interrelationship between monumentality and everyday life or the anthropology underlying the practice of whitewashing, which give the image a singularity, while at the same time giving it a polysemic reading of its meaning (where the heraldic coat of arms can be interpreted as a threat to the birds enclosed by the birdcages) and the work of rural photographers.
Se analiza una imagen del fotógrafo local de Alcántara (Cáceres) Remigio Mestre, cuyo motivo central es una ventana renacentista en la que cuelgan dos jaulas pajareras. Se trata de una fotografía en blanco y negro, de mediados del siglo XX, cuya temática y estética responde a dos pautas: el acabado de tarjeta postal y la tradición del costumbrismo pictórico. De sendas pautas se consideran los aspectos más relevantes, como la interrelación entre monumentalidad y cotidianidad o la antropología subyacente a la práctica del encalado, que confieren singularidad a la imagen, a la vez que le otorgan una lectura polisémica en torno a su sentido (donde el escudo heráldico se puede interpretar como amenaza a las aves encerradas por las pajareras) y a la labor de los fotógrafos rurales.
