Cinco Documentos de Arjona en el siglo XV

In the present work we have gleaned seven documents from the General Archive of Simancas related to the final years of the fifteenth century, a delicate moment in history when the kingdom of Granada had recently disappeared and the warrior society struggled to follow a more civilized and urban path. In the first document, a husband claims his wife was kidnapped by her family due to disagreement with the marriage; in the second, the taxes that must be paid by merchandise and goods sold within the town are set; the third deals with the repair of the town’s defenses, which have deteriorated due to lack of care since the border situation ceased; in the fourth rights and duties of bailiffs and clerks are fixed; in the fifth, a husband claims the unfaithful wife who ran away with her lover and the savings from the house; in the sixth we witness the sentence against a rapist; in the seventh we follow the tribulations of the royal chicken coop that appeared in Arjona in search of its famous hens and was attacked by angry neighbors who refused to give up their pens to the hungry court.
En el presente trabajo hemos espigado siete documentos del Archivo General de Simancas relativos a los años finales del siglo XV, un momento delicado de la historia en que desaparecido el reino de Granada la sociedad guerrera pugna por seguir una senda más burocrática y urbana. En el primero, un marido reclama a su esposa secuestrada por la familia de ella por desacuerdo con el enlace; en el segundo, se fijan los impuestos que deben pagar las mercancías y bienes vendidos dentro del pueblo; en el tercero, se acude al reparo de las defensas del pueblo muy decaídas por falta de cuidados desde que cesó la situación fronteriza; en el cuarto, se fijan derechos y deberes de alguaciles y escribanos; en el quinto, un marido reclama a la esposa infiel que huyó con el amante y con los ahorros de la casa; en el sexto, asistimos a la sentencia contra un violador, y en el séptimo, a las tribulaciones del gallinero real que compareció en Arjona en busca de sus afamadas gallinas y fue perseguido por airados vecinos que se resistían a ceder sus corrales a la corte hambrienta.
