Abstract
- Macedonia was a peripheral area of Greece ruled by a king, primus inter pares among other aristocrats. Macedonia was rich in raw materials long exploited by Greek cities founded on the coast. But in 359 BC the accession to the throne of the young Philip II changed the situation completely: thanks to his abilities, in about 20 years Macedonia became the hegemonic power of all Greece.
