Abstract

The papers in this special section focus on the deployment of cooperative signal process for use in heterogeneous and multi-tasking wireless sensor networks. These devices operate on their own to solve a single or multiple signal processing tasks. In a wireless sensor network (WSN), devices that observe the same phenomenon collaborate to exploit spatial diversity and achieve an improved performance. However, traditional WSNs typically assume a homogeneous setting, in which each device is the same, and in which all the nodes cooperate to solve a single network-wide signal processing task.
