Correspondence, diaries, newspaper clippings, and memorabilia concerning his Civil War activities; diary, 1865, concerning his role in the campaign against the Indians; include undated letter from Elizabeth Custer regarding her biography of her husband and the charge of recklessness brought against him.
Also minutes and papers relating to the operation of the Ionia Sentinel, and photographs. Correspondents include: Russell A. Alger, George A. Custer (Oct. 3 and Oct. 27, 1864), Thomas W. Ferry, and Horace Greeley.
