Exploring the impact of environment and infection on fetomaternal immunity

In utero exposures to environmental factors, including infectious agents, modify the fetomaternal crosstalk and lead to immune disorders later in life. Based on analyses of placental gene expression, circulating immune cells and soluble factors like antibodies and hormones, our study reveals distinct geographical and helminth infection related risks for placental inflammation and unveils a potential role for Vitamin D in the complex immunological landscape which evolves during pregnancy.
