Sustainable 3D printing using eggshells

Publication Year :
2022

Abstract

While Additive Manufacturing is famed for its ability to create complex geometries, sustainability of the technologies is given less attention. Due to the need to melt filament and heat up the printbed, FDM requires a considerable amount of energy. On top of that, valuable and non-renewable resources are used for the production of the commonly used filaments. There is a need for materials that are suitable for FDM printing, while being less detrimental for the environment than commonly used plastic filaments. In this project, paste-like material mixes are developed and tested for their suitability for FDM printing in order to see whether they have the potential to make FDM more sustainable.<br />Integrated Product Design
