Diferencias de género en unidades educativas rurales de Ecuador

To achieve universal education in Ecuador and reduce inequality in guaranteeing the right to study, the Government has implemented programs focused on opening training opportunities in the rural area of the country. The objective of this study was to establish the differences that with respect to gender are reflected in the qualification of the National Exam for Higher Education and the obtaining of university quota by the students of the Millennium Education Units of zone 2 of Ecuador. The research is based on a quantitative approach, it is descriptive, and the statistical method is used. As a result, significant differences were found in favor of men in the qualification obtained from the exam and for the benefit of women in the acceptance of the university quota. It is valid to conclude that gender is not the only element that affects students’ school results. The academic performance responds to other factors of the educational trajectories of the students, such as their emotional intelligence, the socioeconomic conditions, aspirations and goals that are proposed, the habit of study, the support of the parents, the particularities of each educational center and the teachers they have.
Para lograr la universalización de la educación en Ecuador y reducir la desigualdad en la garantía del derecho al estudio, el Gobierno ha implementado programas enfocados en abrir oportunidades de formación en la zona rural del país. El objetivo de este estudio fue establecer las diferencias que con respecto al género se refleja en la calificación del Examen Nacional para la Educación Superior y la obtención de cupo universitario por los estudiantes de las Unidades Educativas del Milenio de la zona 2 de Ecuador. La investigación parte de un enfoque cuantitativo, es de tipo descriptiva, y se emplea el método estadístico. Como resultado, se encontraron diferencias significativas a favor de los hombres en la calificación obtenida del examen y a beneficio de las mujeres en la aceptación del cupo universitario. Es válido concluir que el género no es el único elemento que incide en el resultado escolar de los estudiantes. El rendimiento académico responde a otros factores de las trayectorias educativas de los alumnos, como es su inteligencia emocional, las condiciones socioeconómicas, aspiraciones y metas que se proponen, la costumbre de estudio, el apoyo de los padres, las particularidades de cada centro educativo y los docentes con los que cuentan.
