La Sala Suchet de Can Papiol. El estilo Luis XVI en los dormitorios catalanes acomodados desde finales del XVIII hasta su musealización.

The current Suchet bedroom in the Can Papiol house is the result of the traditional belief that French general Louis Gabriel Suchet stayed at the great manor of the Papiol family in Vilanova i la Geltrú during the Spanish War of Independence. However, there is no documentation that allows us to confirm whether or not he stayed at Can Papiol. The supposed chamber of the general allows us to analyse and understand how and why the Louis XVI style was used in Vilanova and applied, precisely, in the bedroom destined to host the supposed stay of the general. On the other hand, the documentation of the Papiol archive has brought relevant information on the original distribution of the house through unprecedented plans from the mid 19th century, an 1817 inventory, the family accounts and the receipts of the craftsmen who worked in the manor during its construction and its later maintenance.
El actual dormitorio Suchet de Can Papiol, es fruto de la tradicional creencia que el general francés Louis Gabriel Suchet se hospedó en el gran casal de la familia Papiol de Vilanova i la Geltrú durante la Guerra de la Independencia. Aun así no hay documentación que nos permita afirmar si se alojó en Can Papiol. La supuesta cámara del general nos permite analizar y entender cómo y por qué en Vilanova se utilizó el estilo Luis XVI para aplicarse, precisamente, en el dormitorio destinado a la supuesta estancia del general. Por otro lado la documentación del archivo Papiol nos ha aportado información muy relevante sobre la distribución original de la casa con unos planos inéditos de medianos del siglo XIX, un inventario de 1817, las cuentas familiares y los recibos de los artesanos que trabajaron en el casal durante la construcción de este y el mantenimiento posterior.
