Estado de criterios y circunstancias conducentes a la seguridad en la frontera, puesto de Santa Tecla, 14 de junio de 1774

The studied document consists of a letter without recipient, signed by Capitán de Dragones Miguel Ayala, in charge of the Fort of Santa Tecla in Banda Oriental of Uruguay, frontier zone with the domains of the Portuguese Empire in America. This document includes several items to deal with by following the guideline provided by Governor Juan José de Vértiz. It considers the treatment towards the “unfaithful” Indians, the missionary-Güarani or “Christianized” natives, gauderios and the Portuguese on the other side of the frontier, in the struggle for the safety of the territories, ranches, villages and forts belonging to the Spanish domain.
El documento consiste en una carta sin destinatario firmada por el Capitán de Dragones Miguel Ayala, a cargo del Fuerte de Santa Tecla, en la Banda Oriental de Uruguay, zona de frontera con los dominios del Imperio Portugués en América. El documento consta de una serie de puntos que deben ser tenidos a consideración de acuerdo a las directrices dadas por el gobernador Juan José de Vértiz en relación al trato con los indios “infieles”, indios misioneros-guaraní o “cristianizados”, los gauderios y los portugueses del otro lado de la frontera, para la seguridad de los territorios, estancias, pueblos y guardias pertenecientes al dominio español.
