La explotación y el empleo de 'marmora' en la Baetica : un proyecto de investigación de base arqueométrica

En el presente trabajo se abordan las líneas maestras del proyecto sobre el estudio de los materiales lapídeos explotados y empleados en la provincia romana de la Bética que actualmente se desarrolla en colaboración entre investigadores de la Universidad de Sevilla y del Instituto Andaluz del Patrimonio Histórico. Los esfuerzos de historiadores y geólogos se centran en la caracterización e identificación de estos mamora en las diferentes fases susceptibles de proporcionar datos para la reconstrucción histórica de los procesos seguidos en la antigüedad: canteras, circuitos de transporte, talleres, obras y contextos finales de utilización. Para ello, no solamente se está confeccionando un exhaustivo catálogo tanto de los afloramientos como de los ítems arqueológicos realizados en los diferentes materiales, sino que también se está llevando a cabo una completa caracterización geológica de las áreas objeto de estudio, a partir de analítica adecuada. Se trata de subrayar, en cualquier caso, los relevantes resultados obtenidos de este acercamiento interdisciplinar en el marco de los actuales estudios arqueométricos.
In this paper we look at the master guidelines for the joint project studying the stone quarried and used in the Roman province of Baetica currently being undertaken by researchers from the University of Seville and the Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage (IAPH). The efforts of historians and geologists are focusing on the characterisation and identification of thesemarmora in the different phases that can provide data for the historical reconstruction of the processes followed in antiquity: quarries, transport circuits, workshops, building projects and final usage contexts. To this end, not only is an exhaustive catalogue being drawn up of both the outcrops and the archaeological items made from the different types of stone, but a complete geological characterisation of the areas under study, based on suitable analyses, is also being carried out. The aim of this paper is to highlight the relevant results obtained from this interdisciplinary approach within the framework of current archaeometric studies.
