Weighing and batching systems for bulk material

The installation, by Gladding, McBean, of Flexicon Corp’s bulk bag dischargers and flexible screw conveyors to compensate for bulk raw material variations in the batching and blending of clays (from its nearby mine) and grogs (crushed, recycled ceramic material) for its terra cotta building material products is described. The batching system includes five forklift-loaded BULK-OUT BFF bulk bag dischargers, FLOW-FLEXER massaging devices on each discharger, five pairs of flexible screw conveyors, a central weigh hopper and programmable controls. The system allows: efficient weighing and transporting; blending of up to five different types of clays or grogs; minimal maintenance (few moving parts); and no escape of dust (enclosed system).
