Toward the influence of iron oxide morphology on the grinding and flotation processes and on the cold crushing strength (CCS) of heat-treated iron ore pellets

Abstract

The present study demonstrates the effect of the different morphological types on the cold crushing strength (CCS) of heat-treated iron ore pellets. Blends with different morphologies of iron ore oxides were subjected to grinding, filtering and pot grate tests on industrial scale trials. Results of grinding tests showed the haematite-goethite aggregates had the most effect on energy consumption. The martitic-haematite content was straightly related to the final moisture and filtration productivity. The goethite content in haematite-goethite aggregates influences CCS, i.e., the lower the goethite content, the higher the values of CCS.<br />The present study demonstrates the effect of the different morphological types on the cold crushing strength (CCS) of heat-treated iron ore pellets.
