Abstract

Akita Zinc Co. Ltd. employ a wet method of zinc residue treatment at their Lijima electrolytic zinc refinery. This method consists of leaching the residue under SO2 atmosphere, removal of copper by H2S, neutralisation of free acid by lime and oxidisation and precipitation of ferrous ion as ferric oxide using an autoclave. The copper residues are then treated by flotation. Dowa Mining Co. Ltd have adopted this method and have succeeded in recovering lead sulphate; ultrafine copper and silver; and dissolved zinc in addition to the gold, silver and copper recovered in the original process.<br />Akita Zinc Co.
