Abstract

Engineering for mining is a multi-stage process where frameworks are determined by nature but are not always known, and can change as mining proceeds. The engineering process must provide technical solutions which can cover a spectrum of possibly insufficiently determined framework conditions. Close interaction is necessary between mineral deposit information and mine engineering. In Germany specialist engineering starts with a conceptual design, fixing of further aspects with basic design and approval planning, and undertaking detailed engineering for the individual sections of the project. In the potash and rock salt industry there is a shift of engineering objectives towards ecological and sustainability aspects, including the need to modify engineering objectives with regard to recycling and disposal of solid and liquid mining and processing residues.<br />Engineering for mining is a multi-stage process where frameworks are determined by nature but are not always known, and can change as mining proceeds.
