Abstract

Lu-Hf isotope values from several early and late centres across the Mesoproterozoic Gardar province are consistent with a model that suggests recycling of Archaean crust via the mantle in the Gardar period of alkaline magmatism from intraplate rifting, helping to explain the significant numbers of rare element deposits formed in Garda times. Such processes may have been important in providing the conditions for rare element deposit formation throughout geological time.<br />Lu-Hf isotope values from several early and late centres across the Mesoproterozoic Gardar province are consistent with a model that suggests recycling of Archaean crust via the mantle in the Gardar period of alkaline magmatism from intraplate rifting, helping to explain the significant numbers of rare element deposits formed in Garda times.
