Technology of methane production from coal seams through CO2 injection: the review of tests collected during the implementation of CARBOLAB project.
-
Abstract
- Tests conducted during implementation of the European CARBOLAB project in the period 2009-2013 are reviewed. The project includes underground tests of carbon dioxide injection into coal seams and extraction of methane which may be released to the surface. The principal aim of the project is to determine the possibility of applying enhanced coal bed methane recovery technology to underground conditions. The tests allow a determination of the safety of long-term storage of carbon dioxide in coal seams. The project involves the identification of hazards connected with the applied technology which may lead to the escape of carbon dioxide from storage.<br />Tests conducted during implementation of the European CARBOLAB project in the period 2009-2013 are reviewed.
