The contribution of on-line coal analysers to the sustainability of Greek lignite mining sector.

The testing and application are described of on-line ash analysers installed in the Ptolemais and Megalopolis lignite mines. The use of the analysers for sorting purposes to control blending and homogenisation operations is discussed. A reduction of 16% in lignite rehandling requirements was obtained leading to reduced energy consumption and dust emissions and higher lignite deposit recovery.
