Abstract

The Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) supplies superior products to the world's steel industries. Advanced technologies and best practices are integrated with sound business basics to ensure long term success. In 1997, IOC established a Maintenance Strategy Task Force (MSTF) to develop and implement a fully integrated maintenance management strategy. This task force provides leadership in the integration of new technologies and advanced management philosophies in the development of the maintenance strategy. To be effective in the long term, the maintenance strategy must be intimately linked to IOC's business success as the strategy plays a vital role in asset management, cost reduction and ultimately profitability. Discussion is presented of the work of the task force with particular emphasis on its interaction with day-to-day process managers and its support of their commitment to meet customer requirements.<br />The Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) supplies superior products to the world's steel industries.
