Abstract
- Cyprus Miami has been in operation in the Globe/Miami mining district in Arizona since the 1910s. Around 3 800 000 tons of Cu have been produced since mining commenced. In 1915 the company patented the flotation cell and became the first in the USA to use flotation commercially to recover sulphide Cu. Leaching of soluble sulphides and oxides began in 1926. In 1955, the dual process for Cu extraction was used, which included various combinations of sulphuric acid/ferric sulphate leach to recover oxide Cu minerals, followed by application of standard milling/froth flotation on the leach residue to recover sulphide Cu. In-situ leaching was also used from 1950 to 1974. Heap leaching began in 1962 on waste rock and a solvent extraction plant was installed in 1972. The mill/concentrator facility was shut down in 1986 due to changes in ore mineralogy and the ferric cure/solvent extraction/electrowinning method became the main recovery method.<br />Cyprus Miami has been in operation in the Globe/Miami mining district in Arizona since the 1910s.
